Express taps former Macy's exec as CEO

5/21/2019

Express has ended its four-month hunt for a new chief executive.

The fashion retailer has appointed Timothy Baxter as CEO, effective June 17. He will also join the Express board. Baxter will succeed Matthew Moellering, who has served as interim president and interim CEO since January 2019, following the departure of David Kornberg. Moellering will remain with Express as executive VP and COO.

Most recently, Baxter was with Delta Galil Premium Brands, a group of specialty retail apparel brands that include 7 For All Mankind, which he joined in May 2018 as CEO. Prior to that, he spent 26 years with Macy’s and the former May Department Stores in various roles, most recently as Macy’s chief merchandising officer.

“Tim’s expertise in both specialty retail and department stores provides a unique perspective,” said Mylle Mangum, Express board chairwoman. “He has proven public company leadership experience and a mix of skills that make us confident in his ability to return the business to growth.”

Express operates more than 600 retail and factory outlet stores in the United States and Puerto Rico.
