Express Inc. looking for a new CEO

1/22/2019
The chief executive of Express is out after four years in the role.

The fashion apparel retailer on Tuesday announced that, as of Jan. 22, David Kornberg is no longer serving as CEO, president or board member. No reason was given for his departure. Kornberg, who joined Express in 1999 and became CEO in 2015, will remain employed by the chain though Feb. 21.

The company has appointed Matthew Moellering as interim CEO and president until a permanent replacement is named. He joined Express in 2006 and has served as the company’s executive VP and COO since 2011.

Kornberg began his career in the United Kingdom, spending 10 years at Marks & Spencer PLC. He briefly left Express in 2002 to serve as the VP of business development for Disney Stores and returned in 2003. As CEO of Express, he succeeded long-time top executive Michael Weiss.

“On behalf of the board of directors, we would like to thank David for his many years of service and strong contributions to Express in multiple roles,” said Mylle Mangum, chairwoman, Express. “We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. During this time of transition, we have every confidence that Matt’s proven leadership will serve the company well.”

Express operates more than 600 retail and factory outlet stores in the United States and Puerto Rico.
