By Marianne Wilson - 06/24/2019

David's Bridal has tapped a retail veteran with 30 years-plus experience as chief executive.

The bridal and special occasion dress retailer appointed James Marcum CEO. He is expected to join the company this week and will also join the David's board. Marcum replaces interim CEO Tom Lynch, who was appointed to the position in March following an executive shakeup.

Marcum joins David's Bridal from Apollo Management, where he was a senior operating partner since January 2016. Throughout his career, he has served as the CEO, COO and CFO of such companies such as Central Parking, Circuit City, Hollywood Entertainment, Stage Stores and Marshalls, among others.  Marcum also brings significant board experience having served on the boards of both public and private companies. He currently serves on the board of Iconix Brand Group.

“Jim has considerable experience leading retail and consumer companies through transitions, resetting strategy, building teams, and positioning companies for growth,” said Christine Pope, board chair of David's Bridal and a senior VP at Oaktree Capital Management. “He is an excellent leader with tremendous operating and financial experience and is passionate about leading teams and companies to achieve their full potential."

David’s Bridal filed for Chapter 11 in November 2018  It emerged about two months later, with about $450 million less in debt.
