Avalon plans spring marketplace for local artisans

As it did during the holidays, Avalon will turn an open space into an artisan gallery leading up to Mother's Day.

Avalon, the highly popular mixed-used center outside of Atlanta. is big on green spaces and gathering spaces but inventive with empty spaces, too.

As it does across many of its centers, North American Properties will be filling a 4,000-sq.-ft. retail space near Sephora and Café Intermezzo at the Alpharetta site with The Market at Avalon. The spring installation will feature local artisans and run from March 19 through to Mother’s Day.

“During the pandemic, we wanted to pivot and provide some low-capital space to local entrepreneurs who can begin selling to a wider audience without having to obtain permits,” said Adam Schwegman, a partner and head of leasing at NAP.

The pop-up retailers include handmade housewares creator Cappai Designs, the upscale pet boutique Gussied Up, and under-$50 jewelry maker Humans Before Handles.

“They’re not carrying any of the same goods as our national brand tenants, who like the fact that they attract more traffic,” Schwegman said. “Our marketing team does a great job getting the word out.”
