CVS is running the ‘ExtraCare Extra Thanks’ event.

CVS is bolstering the perks of being an ExtraCare rewards member.

The drugstore giant has recently rolled out several new features of its ExtraCare loyalty program designed to provide a personalized, digital-first experience for consumer. They include:

  • Digital receipt choice: At checkout, ExtraCare members can decide whether they would like a printed receipt, emailed receipt or no receipt.
  • Rewards tracker: The CVS Pharmacy app allows ExtraCare members to view progress toward all of their earned rewards from its ExtraCare, ExtraCare BeautyClub and ExtraCare Pharmacy & Health Rewards programs. Consumers can also use the app to gain access to their $10 “Monthly Promo” reward they receive from the paid CarePass membership program, all in one digital space.
  • “Scan to save” feature: App users can scan a product barcode in-store or at home, and view all available coupons for that product or similar ones.
  • ExtraCare SMS program: This offering sends exclusive savings, personalized offers and coupon reminders via text message. Extracare members can also sign up and save three times more with email-only deals when they subscribe to ExtraCare emails.
  • Buy online, pickup in-store (BOPIS): Shoppers can get their order in as little as one hour when they buy products online and pick them up in-store with free CVS pickup.
  • Health dashboard: Accessed through the CVS.com e-commerce site or the CVS mobile consumer app, the health dashboard allows consumers who have received their vaccinations at a CVS Pharmacy or MinuteClinic location to digitally obtain access to their vaccination information, wherever and whenever they need it.

‘ExtraCare Extra Thanks Event’
CVS will be hosting its 14-day annual app-exclusive “ExtraCare Extra Thanks Event” in July. From Sunday, July 10 – Saturday, July 23, ExtraCare members who have their account linked to the CVS Pharmacy app will have access to daily, free gifts within the “Deals & Rewards” section of the CVS Pharmacy app. Offers can be digitally sent to a member’s ExtraCare card to redeem in-store or online while supplies last.

The free gifts will include some of CVS’ store brand products in categories including first aid, vitamins and supplements, snacks and beverages, and skin care. Customers can also obtain ExtraBucks Rewards points to use for future purchases.

CVS ramps up ExtraCare
According to CVS, it saw a 40% increase in coupons sent to users’ ExtraCare cards from the app in the last year. The retailer has been gradually increasing the benefits its offers ExtraCare members.

In 2021, CVS upgraded its ExtraCare BeautyClub loyalty program, in response to customer feedback for a "more experiential beauty rewards program." The new perks include the choice of a free beauty gift each month when members spend $30 on qualifying beauty products, as well as personalized deals and mobile-exclusive beauty offers

In addition, the retailer expanded the features available in its app for the ExtraCare program. Instead of being paid out on a quarterly basis, ExtraCare rewards points now show up in the CVS app moments after a purchase.

Based in Woonsocket, R.I., CVS operates more than 9,900 stores across the U.S.
