Ikea opens million-sq.-ft. fulfillment center on Staten Island

3/5/2019
Car-less New Yorkers buy warehouses full of Ikea furniture for their apartments from Ikea.com. Now Ikea has brought a warehouse to New York City.

The Swedish chain this week cut the ribbon on a new 975,000-sq.-ft. fulfillment center less than 20 miles from Manhattan on Staten Island, operated by CEVA Logistics.

“The new facility is an important addition to our distribution network allowing us to meet delivery needs of our New York-area customers with greater agility and speed,” said Pam Andrews, distribution operations manager USA.

In addition to online sales and deliver, Ikea operates “planning studios” in the city, where shoppers can view products and have them delivered or pick them up.

The new Staten Island center commenced shipments in November, and area shoppers receive their orders within two days, on average.
