Electronics e-retailer looks to steal some thunder from Amazon

Hoping to woo electronics shoppers away from Amazon’s Prime Day, Newegg is planning its own shopping extravaganza.



For the third year, the electronics e-retailer will hold its annual "FantasTech" sale. The three-day event, which kicks off on July 11, will feature will offer “deep discounts” on hundreds of products across all tech product categories.



Merchandise ranges from external hard drives and computer components to gaming laptops and 4K Ultra HD Smart LED televisions. Hundreds of fresh deals will be unlocked on July 12, and again on July 13 — a factor that makes this year’s FantasTech sale its biggest to date, according to Newegg.



“The summer months are when people shop for themselves, and we aim to be the best place to get tech,” said Merle McIntosh, senior VP sales and marketing at Newegg.



The event aims takes a hit against Amazon, which is hosting its third annual Prime Day sale. The upcoming global shopping event, which begins on July 10 at 6 p.m. PST, runs through the wee early hours of July 12.



Overall, the online giant is preparing to have “hundreds of thousands” of deals on merchandise, including a "variety" of television brands. Amazon also plans to have “millions of items” available in stock for a record number of shoppers, according to the company.
