Chewy has made its most significant health care expansion to date.

The online pet supplies retailer debuted its Chewy Vet Care concept, in Plantation, Fla., followed by a location in the Denver suburb of Highlands Ranch, Col. The veterinary practice concept, announced in December,  joins Chewy’s existing health offerings, such as pet pharmacy, tele-triage services, pet-first insurance and wellness plans.

Offering routine wellness exams, urgent care, dental care, vaccinations, surgeries and more for dogs and cats, the Vet Care format has been designed to help help customers and their pets feel at ease. The waiting areas promote a calm environment for anxious pets, while the exam rooms make patients feel comfortable, not confined, the company said. For a personal touch, digital monitors in the exam rooms display the pet’s picture, questions for the veterinary team and unique discharge instructions.

In addition, Chewy’s online pet portal gives instant access to all the pet’s health information. Customers can download records, proof of vaccination, travel certificates and invoices from their mobile device. They can also manage their pet’s daily health with a personalized care plan and reminders from their veterinary team.

“This is one of the most significant moments in Chewy’s history as we open the doors to our Chewy Vet Care practices and physically become a part of our customers' lives and in their neighborhoods,” said Mita Malhotra, President of Chewy Health. "Our team has worked relentlessly to create an experience that is extraordinary and memorable for pets, customers, and our veterinary teams. We can’t wait to take care of all the furry family members in South Florida, Denver and Atlanta!”

In a December statement announcing Chewy Vet Care, the company said that Chewy Vet Care is inspired and designed “by a team of veterinary experts to combine personal, patient-centered medicine with the latest technology in an environment where customers will love to take their pets, and care teams will love to practice.”

On its website, Chewy offers approximately 111,000 pet products from national and private brands, including pet supplements, food, accessories and more.
