David’s Bridal acquires hot technology startup

8/29/2018
David’s Bridal’s new acquisition will make it easier for brides-to-be to register for wedding gifts.

The retailer acquired Seattle-based Blueprint Registry, an online universal gift registry that allows consumers to add gifts from any retailer, import existing registries, and create cash registries, among other tasks. The deal closed on Aug. 23. Specific terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Blueprint’s team will remain based in Seattle and operate under the leadership of president, senior VP of registry Nevin Shetty and chief design and product officer Lizzy Ellingson. They will both report to Scott Key, CEO of David's Bridal. The retailer has also extended employment offers to Blueprint Registry's leadership and technology teams.

Blueprint Registry, which was one of the companies chosen to participate in the inaugural Target + Techstars accelerator program in 2016, enables users to create registries using a visual room-by-room “blueprint” shopping experience. Customers can browse an extensive product catalog curated from retailer partners including Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, Target, Williams-Sonoma and West Elm, among others. The universal platform also enables users to import existing registries, add a gift from any retailer, create a honeymoon registry and cash registry, and it supports group gifting, according to the company.

"As we move forward, our goal is to make all wedding planning simpler for our customer by offering the additional services we know she needs,” said Key. “We're thrilled to integrate Blueprint Registry's unique registry concept into our business in order to make the busy lives of our bride easier.”
