Target conjures drive-thru Halloween celebrations — in store parking lots

Target Corp. will transform its parking lots into contact-free trick-or-treat sites on Oct. 31.

The discount giant is offering a drive-thru experience called “Boo Avenue” at select stores for Halloween. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 31, customers can put on costumes, drive to the parking lot of a participating store, and take part in themed activities that include costumed cars and socially distanced trick-or-treating.

Target’s main discount rival Walmart is also transforming more than 100 of its store parking lots into “spooky street” trick-or-treat sites that are contact-free and socially distanced. Kids and their parents are invited to dress up and head to Walmart for these free Halloween events, which begin Thursday, Oct. 15 and run through Halloween.

Other special holiday offerings from Target include a nearly 50-piece limited assortment of “Halloween oddities” in its Threshold home brand and adaptive, sensory-friendly costumes.

“At Target, we’re all about bringing joy to our guests’ everyday lives, and now, more than ever, those little moments of pure fun matter big time,” said Rick Gomez, Target executive VP and chief marketing and digital officer. “That’s exactly why we created Boo Avenue, a fun way for families to celebrate Halloween safely while enjoying time together.”
