Pinterest unveils shopping list feature, expands global e-commerce

Pinterest is making it easier for users to save items they want to purchase and rolling out shopping features to four new countries.

The visually oriented social media platform is launching a new feature called Shopping List in the U.S. and U.K. With internal data indicating Pinterest users are over seven times more likely to purchase products they have saved, Shopping List enables consumers to automatically save their product pins in one place.

The feature also enables users to find key information such as price, reviews and shipping in an even grid to compare products and make purchase decisions. In addition, users will receive alerts when they can get a good deal on products they have saved with price drop notifications. Pinterest will roll out Shopping List to Australia, Canada, France, and Germany later in 2021.

In the U.S., U.K., and Canada, Pinterest will reveal “The Goods by Pinterest”, a two-week shopping spotlight that will give users access to limited edition products exclusively sold through Pinterest from emerging brands such as Outdoor Voices in the U.S. and Charlotte Tilbury in the U.K.

In other international moves, Pinterest is expanding shopping features first introduced in the U.S. in November 2020 to Australia, Canada, France, and Germany. Functionalities include offering Pinterest users the opportunity to shop right from Pins, on boards, from search, and from Lens camera search. Users in these countries also now have access to shopping spotlights, which showcase expert recommendations and trends from fashion and home influencers and publishers.

Pinterest is also rolling out its Verified Merchant Program in the U.K., Australia, Canada, France and Germany; as well as shop tab on profile and product tagging in Australia, Canada, France, and Germany.

“People have always come to Pinterest to shop - they use Pinterest to discover new ideas and actively consider what to do or buy to bring those ideas to life,” said Dan Lurie, global head of shopping products at Pinterest. “We want to help users to find products just right for them and feel confident that they've made a solid choice from reputable merchants with a seamless shopping experience. We’re excited that Pinterest users in more countries will now be able to go from inspiration to purchase anywhere on Pinterest, bringing us one step closer to our goal of making every pin easy to shop.”
