Rite Aid expands same-day delivery with Uber Eats

Rite Aid continues partnering with third-party delivery platforms.

Rite Aid customers have a new option for same-day delivery of online orders.

The drugstore retailer is now offering delivery of healthcare and grocery items directly to customer homes via a nationwide partnership with Uber Eats. On-demand delivery is now available for 2,185 Rite Aid locations across 17 states on Uber Eats.

Customers who wish to order Rite Aid items for delivery can open the Uber Eats app, tap the convenience or pharmacy icons, select Rite Aid, and begin shopping. Within the app, users can access a full catalog of healthcare and grocery products from their local Rite Aid store. Uber Pass and Eats Pass customers will also obtain $0 delivery fee and 5% off on all orders over $15.

Rite Aid has been gradually building its same-day delivery capability via third-party partnerships since May 2020, when it began collaborating with Instacart to enable on-demand delivery of essential healthcare and grocery items during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. This followed an in-house home delivery upon request service Rite Aid launched in March 2020 in response to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In May 2021, the retailer added DoorDash as an on-demand delivery partner for non-prescription health, convenience, and wellness essentials. The DoorDash delivery assortment includes health and beauty supplies such as shampoo and makeup; non-perishable and perishable grocery staples such as milk and ice cream; over-the-counter medicine like pain relievers, cold and flu care; and household products such as paper towels and cleaning supplies.

And August 2021 saw Rite Aid partner with Shipt for same-day delivery across its retail footprint. More than 20,000 products, including cold and flu medicines, vitamins, beauty staples and snacks, available to customers through Shipt.

Meanwhile, Uber Eats has been busy expanding the range of retailers it provides on-demand delivery for beyond its core base of quick-service restaurants. Notably, Rite Aid rival Walgreens started offering same-day delivery across the country via the Uber Eats platform in June 2021.

“Consumer shopping preferences are changing, so we are continuing to evolve our retail business to ensure customers are able to conveniently get what they need to keep their family happy and healthy – whether they visit us in-store or buy online,” said Jim Peters, COO, Rite Aid. “By adding Uber as a delivery option, we are doubling down on an omnichannel approach that complements the busy lives of our customers. Ensuring convenient access to whole health essentials enables us to live our purpose of helping people achieve whole health for life.”

“Convenience is a key component of Uber’s delivery strategy, allowing us to create a seamless delivery experience by ensuring we have the essential stores and products customers need," said Raj Beri Uber’s global head of grocery and new verticals. "With our partners at Rite Aid, we're thrilled to make shopping for everything from cold medication to cosmetics more 'convenient' than ever."

Rite Aid operates over 2,500 retail pharmacy locations across 17 states.
