Hudson Nonstop opens second Amazon-powered contactless store

Travelers going through Chicago Midway International Airport have a new, streamlined shopping option.

Leading travel retailer Hudson is opening the first checkout-free store at Chicago Midway as part of the airport’s concessions redevelopment program. Following its initial rollout at Dallas Love Field Airport in March 2021, the company now offers its Hudson Nonstop contactless store format at Chicago Midway. 

Leveraging Amazon’s “Just Walk Out" contactless shopping platform, Hudson Nonstop combines computer vision, sensor fusion, and machine-learning algorithms. Upon arriving at the 1,000-sq.-ft. store, customers are greeted by a Hudson associate who can assist them, answer any questions, and re-stock shelves as needed. Customers then enter with a swipe of their credit card or by using “Tap to Pay,” select the items they are looking for and walk out, automatically charged for the items they took after they leave the store.

The store spills out directly onto the concourse floor in Concourse B by Gate B19, providing travelers a glimpse inside as they pass. Merchandise assortment includes food, snacks, beverages, health and beauty products including fragrances, electronics and audio products from brands such as Brookstone, and souvenirs. Hudson initially announced the store was coming to Chicago Midway in April 2021.
