Amazon online career event draws more than 300,000 attendees

Amazon made its annual Career Day hiring event national and virtual this year and the response was enthusiastic – and then some.

The e-tail giant’s digital version of its Amazon Career Day event, help on Wednesday, Sept. 16, attracted more than 300,000 residents of all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, with more than 55,000 from California alone. Attendees learned about the 33,000 corporate and tech roles available at Amazon, as well as the 100,000 open positions across the company’s operations network.

In addition, a record-setting 384,000 people applied for a job at Amazon in the U.S. and Canada during the last week since the event was announced. In the span of 24 hours, Amazon recruiters completed over 20,000 one-on-one career coaching sessions with participants; and another 6,000 people joined group breakout sessions.

In contrast, Amazon said 17,000 job seekers attended its 2019 Career Day events, which were held in six U.S. cities – and more than 200,000 people applied for jobs in the week leading up to the event.

“Our vision for Career Day was to help job seekers from all walks of life and career stages fulfill their professional goals, using our scale to support those who need it the most,” said Beth Galetti, senior VP of HR at Amazon. “We have tens of thousands of jobs available – from roles in finance, robotics, software development or AI, to entry-level positions with highly competitive pay and benefits across our operations network. We’re looking forward to welcoming many Career Day participants to Amazon as full-time employees in the coming months.
