Publix tags in natural, organic products

8/24/2009

LAKELAND, Fla. Publix announced that it is now using a unique shelf tag program to highlight natural, organic and earth-friendly products.

According to Publix, the tags are tan-colored and some feature an information icon making product selection easier. The three shelf tags include: organic -- with an information icon denoting the product is certified USDA organic, which means the item contains 95% to 100% organic ingredients; made with organic ingredients -- with an information icon noting the product was made with 70% to 94% organic ingredients; and natural or earth-friendly -- meant to inform customers the item is minimally processed, contains no artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, or sweeteners, or the item is produced in a way that minimizes any negative impact on the environment.

“The tan shelf tags allow customers to simply look at the tag color and icons to identify natural or organic products, rather than having to look at the details of the product label itself,” said Maria Brous, Publix director of media and community relations. “Customers interested in avoiding chemicals, added hormones and additives in foods can quickly and easily find organic, natural and earth-friendly items throughout the store.”

Included in the program are Publix brand, Publix GreenWise Market brand and national brand products.
