  • FMI report: Shoppers continue to tighten their belts

    New York City -- Rising fuel costs, higher commodity prices and increasing international market demand for food are pushing food inflation higher and higher, according to the Food Marketing Institute’s U.S. Grocery Shopper Trends report released Tuesday.

  • Crate and Barrel rolls out shopkick app chainwide

    Palo Alto, Calif. -- Shopkick, a leading location-based shopping app, announced that all Crate and Barrel locations across the United States will offer walk-in rewards and special deals to shoppers simply for visiting. For shoppers, that means shopkick walk-in rewards are now available in 39 states, plus Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico, up from three states at launch in August 2010.

    The national rollout comes less than five months after Crate and Barrel initially launched its shopkick trial.

  • Redcard needed for price leadership

    Target’s Redcard may become an increasingly more important factor in the retailer maintaining low price leadership.

    Customer Growth Partners’ price comparison survey for Target and Walmart revealed that on a comparable 55-item basket of items found at Walmart Supercenters and Target P-Fresh stotes or Target Superstores, Walmart had reasserted price leadership over Target by almost 3%--prior to Target’s Redcard 5% discount. For the first three months of the year Target had 0.6% advantage (prior to the Redcard discount) over Walmart.

    Given the performance of Costco and BJ’s during April, it’s a safe bet that same-store sales at Sam’s Club continued to accelerate during the first quarter and will meet or exceed guidance provided at the end of the fourth quarter that called for an increase in the 1% to 3% range.

  • Einstein Noah Restaurant Group selects Service Management Group to drive sales and increase loyalty

    Kansas City, Mo. -- Einstein Noah Restaurant Group announces partnership with Service Management Group, a leading customer analytics agency focused on loyalty and service improvement, to increase customer loyalty and drive same-store sales.

    Through this partnership Service Management will identify new business opportunities through customer analyses that integrate guest experience metrics with transaction data and Einstein restaurant attributes.

  • Express puts entire product line on its Facebook page

    New York City -- Express announced the enhanced option to shop and purchase its entire product line via the brand's Facebook page, which now includes over 837,000 friends. All inventory and pricing is consistent with web and mobile sites and updated seamlessly in real time. The page provides a new product zoom technology, secure check out and was developed internally by Express' e-commerce operations team lead by Jim Wright, senior VP CRM and e-commerce.
