A new retailer is coming to the Bergen Town Center shopping center in Paramus, N.J. with a long-term lease.

Urban Edge Properties has announced that the furniture, artisan décor, and food and beverage retailer World Market will open a ground-level store later this year. The 19,000-sq.-ft. location will be the World Market’s first in Bergen County, joining 240 other stores nationwide. The store will be located next to the mall’s parking garage and facing the Route 4 corridor.

“World Market is a terrific tenant to join the gift and home lineup at Bergen Town Center,” said Leigh Lyons, senior VP of leasing for Urban Edge. “A popular store of this size will draw new customers to the property where they’ll find many choices and complementary shops.”

Launched near San Francisco’s famed Fisherman’s Wharf in 1958, World Market offers customers unique artisan goods and handicrafts, international food favorites and design inspiration for furniture and home décor at low prices. Based in Alameda, 54 of the retailer’s stores are in its home state of California. World Market was owned by Bed Bath & Beyond from 2012 to 2021, and was sold to Kingswood Capital Management in 2021.

Generating more than 11 million visits annually, Bergen Town Center’s other tenants include Whole Foods, Target, CVS, J. Crew, Nordstrom Rack, Saks Off 5th, Bloomingdale’s Outlet, Kohl’s and Marshalls. In 2022, Urban Edge announced that Hackensack Meridien Health, New Jersey’s largest health provider, would build an 80,000-sq.-ft. medical center at the property.

The center first opened in 1957, and underwent a major renovation and expansion in 2009. Bergen Town Center provides shoppers—many who drive to Paramus from New York City to avoid sales tax—a value shopping option. Urban Edge manages 76 properties, primarily in the New York metropolitan region, totaling 17.1 million square feet of gross leasable area.
