I visited my first Von Maur store in 1999, a decade after I relocated from southern boomtown Atlanta to Lincoln, Neb., a sleepy college town that only really wakes up on Husker football Saturdays. Today I am back home in Baton Rouge, La., still no bustling metropolis, but the food and football trump.

Here are several pure-play online retailers that are venturing into the physical space — or thinking about making the leap:

• Rent the Runway, which rents high-end designer gowns, dresses and accessories to women for weddings and other special events, will use a recent infusion of $24.4 million in financing to build showrooms where shoppers can try on the frocks and consult with stylists. The popular online destination reportedly has Chicago next on its agenda.

Vince Camuto's namesake store in Grand Central Station, New York City, reflects the footwear's designer's edgy and feminine style and modern sensibility with mirrored product displays and polished chrome metal accents. Other materials include white lacquer and a ceramic floor.

The design team created a  shelving system that  wraps the columns on the left side while connecting them on the right side.  The color palette takes on different shades of gray for a balance of modernism and sophistication.

South Jersey’s first Henri Bendel has opened at Cherry Hill Mall, located in Cherry Hill, N.J.

The PREIT-owned property now features a 2,300-sq.-ft. Henry Bendel designer fashion boutique, joining Nordstrom, True Religion, Hugo Boss, Michael Kors, Guess by Marciano, and more.

“As South Jersey’s fashion destination, Cherry Hill Mall continues to welcome venerable style icons to the property,” said Lisa Wolstromer, Cherry Hill Mall senior marketing director.
