The Rug Dept. opens in Norwood, Mass.

Hingham, Mass. -- Building #19, the New England closeout retailer which shut its doors after declaring Chapter 11 bankruptcy in December 2013, has returned as The Rug Dept. The company opened its first Rug Dept. store in the town of Norwood, Mass. on Jan. 26.



According to The Rug Dept. website, shipments have been arriving daily since at least Dec. 31. 2013 and a trailer of mats left Dalton, Ga. on Jan. 15. An email sent to Building #19 customers on Dec. 6, 2013 contained a link to a Facebook page for The Rug Dept. announcing that The Rug Dept. would open soon as a specialty rug closeout retailer in the former Building #19 stores in the Massachusetts towns of Burlington, Norwood, and Weymouth. It is not clear if there are plans to reopen any full-line Building #19 stores.
