RANDOM NOTES: Landmark, an 180,000-sq.-ft. supermarket in Manila, Philippines, was selected as Store of the Year in A-R-E’s (Association For Retail Environments, formerly National Association of Store Fixture Manufacturers) 2008 retail design competition. The store showcases the latest technology and food displays in a cutting-edge environment. Serpentine shapes and ovals break the large space into intimate zones. The three-floor, 32,400-sq.-ft. store has an illuminated light wall that spans the full height of the store. It features mannequins wearing the latest H&M fashions. H&M is set to debut a youth-oriented concept store in London’s Camden neighborhood.… Cole Haan has its sights set on aggressive expansion. The company hopes to expand from its current 65 U.S. locations, to 150 to 175 within five years. Its new store design is contemporary, with a wood, chrome and glass facade.… Target Corp. will unveil two new store prototypes (one for its regular format, the other for SuperTarget )in October. Both will be larger than the chain’s existing models and include more space for food. Pharmacies will be more front and center in the new stores, which also will have updated facades of brick and stone as opposed to painted concrete block.… Avant-garde retailer Comme des Garcons has taken its “guerrilla store” concept to the United States, opening a boutique in downtown Los Angeles. The industrial-looking space will remain open for one year.… The Institute of Store Planners (ISP) has changed its name to the Retail Design Initiative.

NEW PROJECTS: NBC Universal has selected Callison to oversee the design of “The Tonight Show’s” new home and studio at its Universal City Studios’ Stage 1 location in Universal City, Calif.

She was previously at Big Red Rooster. … Callison, Seattle, has hired Tom Bahn as COO.… Mario Echeverria, founding principal of Echeverria Design Group, Coral Gables, Fla., was honored in the Lifetime Achievement category in the Design Center of America’s annual “Stars of Design” awards.
